The Civic Club of Harrisburg

The Civic Club was beautiful. It was the only venue in Harrisburg where we could be RIGHT on the Susquehanna River. Although limited to 150 guests, it provided more than enough space for everyone. The best part is that all of your guests stay at the same place for the ceremony, which is outside right along the river, and then go inside for the cocktail hour and upstairs to the dinner. No one worried about driving or transportation. Everything was top notch. The only crit we had were that certain items were in disrepair, but that was no way at fault of Karen's Katering, but the actual venue. For example, the lights outside and some of the interior woodwork trim needed a little TLC (but I think we were the only ones that noticed), and the bathrooms could use an update. Overall, no real complaints!! Great Venue!

The worst experience possible! We loved the Civic Club and we were locked into using Karen's Catering. We 1st met with them and where quoted a price - then once we sent our deposit $$ in, everything seemed to change. They required we put 50% down 11 months before the wedding which was a little odd to me. We had a horrible time dealing with Karen every step of the way! She would scream at me, my mother and made me cry more times than I can count. The final straw was when we had arranged our rehearsal the night before (this was done 10 months in advance) but was TOLD that it had to be moved 1 month before the wedding because they booked another event that night!! We had invitations ordered and my future husband had to work that day which is why it was the time was the way it was. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE WHO VALUES CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karen's Catering are the best catering company in Middletown.Their chefs prepared a great menu and where really easy to work with when it came to decision making.I love how they worked within our budget.Everyone was very pleased with the service they provided at our recpetion.The food was very filling and they set up great stations.

Karen's Catering was wonderful. We had rain off and on during the day (of an outside ceremony), and they kept us informed of the weather conditions right up until guests started arriving. Everything went off just as planned. Jill was extremely helpful both in the planning stages and the day of our wedding. It was very hot and she made sure that my husband and I had drinks and whatever else we needed. The food for the cocktail hour and reception were delicious. Everything was perfect. We couldn't have asked for a more special day. I would recommend Karen's to anyone.

Absolutely beautiful location -- They ladies did everything for me that day.. I had no stresses. They are very prepared/organized.

Overall, a very positive and wonderful experience with Karen's Catering. We had the pleasure of working with Jill and she was very responsive and answered any of our questions and was great to deal with. We would highly recommend Karen's Catering for any catering event you may have as they did an outstanding job for us.

We were married at the Civic Club of Harrisburg, but these guys also run Harmony Hall. We opted to have our wedding ceremony upstairs, then a cocktail hour downstairs while they changed the room, then the reception upstairs. The food was OK. The appetizers were better than the main course...but we really didn't want to have a buffet, and it's hard to make 120 meals at the same time. Jill was our coordinator (through Karen's) and she was terrific.

We had our reception at Harmony Hall which is a beautiful location and the set up of the hall was fantastic. We did, however, run into a few problems with this venue. For one, we requested a lemonade table and were quoted one price but when it came time to pay the bill we were quoted another, much higher price. After a long discussion we settled on the original price.Also, some of our guests weren't happy about how some of the things were handled once they got to the reception hall. I had some friends assigned to man the sign in book, the gift table and to generally make sure things went smoothly at the reception but the staff interfered with some of the requests that I had made. I had told the staff ahead of time who would be doing what but when it came down to it they ignored my requests. We also experienced some general unprofessionalism with the staff in how they handled or didn't handle the arrangments. I didn't like how we had to do our flowers and cake through their vendors and that our photographer, band, etc, had to be "approved" by them before we booked. I guess that is standard but I found it annoying that I couldn't just book who I wanted to book. Luckily it turned out okay.

We had our wedding and reception at Harmony Hall. Let me start by saying this is a really gorgeous place, HOWEVER what you get in beauty of venue you lose in everything else. Mid-way through the planning of everything they switched florists on me and told me I could use the lady I orginally wanted for my cake that they recommended!! After a few arguements I did get the cake from the lady I orginally picked (which was very tasty and well done). The food at our reception was cold, like ice cold. The only way it could have been worse is if they had served everyone frozen entrees. Karen is pushy and overbearing and wanted to control every second of our wedding. I had to scream at her on my wedding day to back off. No bride should have to do that! She surprised us with a deposit we had never been told about on the day of the wedding. She is awful and will make your day 1,000 times more stressful than it needs to be! When we gave her the feedback that she requested there was no follow-up on her end. For nearly 80 bucks a head I would have expected better service and my food not to be cold. I cannot in good faith recommend this place to another bride. I would never give anyone that big of a migraine!
